The First Montfort Model United Nations 2020
Montfort Senior Secondary School, Ashok Vihar, proudly made its foray into the world of MUNs
in the golden jubilee year 2020, by organising its first Virtual Intra-school Model United Nations
Conference. The participants for the event were students of classes 9th to 12th who were first
given preliminary training and once they understood the ideology and functioning of an MUN,
a two day screening process was conducted by the organising committee. The 6 Executive
Board members were selected post this audition and all 48 interested students were given the
opportunity to participate as delegates in the various committees. A series of trainings were
conducted for all interested candidates, first by the Student In-charge Shivani Sachdeva and
then the Committee Heads-Vania Duneja, Hrishi Pasricha,Bhavya Gupta,Kasvi Nijhawan and
Srishti Goyal. Finally, a comprehensive training session was conducted by the much experienced
expert MUNer, Mr. Devesh Gupta, Founder at Emerge, Vice President - ICSD and Director of
Youth Development and Education Initiatives at the DAIS who added valuable inputs. These
training sessions were rewarding learning experiences for all concerned.
The final session was held on 1st December 2020 and saw enthusiastic participation by every
participant, both teachers and students. The conference consisted of 3 general committees:
UNGA, UNHRC and AIPPM and the Montfort Press. It proved to be a great success as students
plunged into hectic preparations through extensive research, enlightening debates and
discussions among themselves under the guidance of the teacher coordinators Mrs. Shweta
Kaushik and Mrs. Ragashri Pillai and the student supervisor, Shivani Sachdeva. The event saw
brilliant performances and provided the perfect platform for our students to extensively research
and gather information on national and international issues, develop a better understanding
of the economic and socio-political climate in the world they live in and express their opinions.
This event would not have been possible without the constant support, encouragement and
motivation provided by our Principal Bro. Thampy Alex. We extend gratitude to him for this
opportunity and initiating Montfort School into the MUN Community .
